The athletes are reportedly not quite impressed with the quality and taste of food at the Olympic Village in Paris. The official food sponsor of the event is Sodexo Live, which is serving nearly 40,000 meals a day. Besides a huge dining hall, several restaurants have been set up inside the Village. Athletes can visit these places to have French cuisine during lunch and dinner. Many of them have raised questions regarding the food. They have shared their experience in the form of food vlogging, drawing attention to the menu at the Olympic Village. When the members of the USA women’s gymnastics team were asked about the same, they responded with a diplomatic approach.
During a press conference after the team event, Simone Biles said as per New York Post, “OK, here’s the thing. I don’t think we’re having proper French cuisine in the Village like you guys might be eating because you’re outside the Village. For the athletes, it’s a little bit healthier.”
The youngest gymnast in the USA women’s side, Hezly Rivera, further revealed her disappointment, saying, “I don’t think it’s very good, at least what we’re having in the dining hall. I definitely think French food is good, but what we’re having there, I don’t think it’s the best. But it gets the job done.” Biles then chimed in and admitted, “I thought the pizza was good.”
American rugby player Ilona Maher dropped a video on TikTok, offering a sneak peek into her diet routine during the Olympics campaign. She was seen eating a bread roll, a croissant, a crepe and some slices of cheese while sitting in the dining area. “There are some misconceptions about what athletes eat. We eat a lot of carbs. Fuel up, don’t stay hungry,” Maher was heard saying in the video.
USA’s volleyball player Erik Shoji also shared videos, reviewing the breakfast at the Village. He loved the taste of the eggs and called them “better than average”. He also had rice, sausage, and fruit which Shoji thought tasted like “what you might expect”. Shoki, however, liked the fruits and described them as “fresh”.
Many athletes have shown a thumbs-up to the chocolate muffin they are having inside the Olympic Village. Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen has reportedly made eight videos on the dessert and labelled himself as the “Olympic Muffin Man”. Women’s Individual Foil Fencing gold medalist Lee Kiefer was also impressed by the muffin and gave it five stars.
