'25 LPA Salary In Today’s Age Is Nothing’: Investor’s Post Triggers Online Debate
While some agreed with his views, others, particularly those who have been in the industry for 10 years and still earn around Rs 25 lakh per annum, disagreed.

Sourav Dutta, an investor and trader, recently sparked a debate on social media with his views on tech salaries. In a post, Dutta claimed that a Rs 25 lakh per annum salary is “nothing” in today’s market, suggesting that even software engineers earn more than that. He also questioned whether such salaries are distorting the market. His comments have triggered a range of reactions online, with many users sharing their perspectives on the issue.

”25 LPA salary in today’s age is nothing. Even a software engineer gets more than this. Are tech salaries distorting the market?” Dutta wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Take a look at the post below:

The post, shared two days ago, has amassed over 6.5 lakh views. While some agreed with Dutta, others offered a different perspective in the comment section.

One user commented, “With all asset prices increasing these huge salaries mean nothing…..20 years back a fresher could buy 30gms gold with 1 month’s salary, now they cannot even afford 10 grams…..currency is depreciating, look at ur income or net worth in terms of assets and not currency.”

Another shared, “I have placed more than ten matrimonial ads for my son in local newspaper. No one has responded to my ad. Reason is most girls are earning ten lakh twenty lakh and fifty-sixty lakh in tech cos. Six lakh seems an insult for a boy these days.”

Meanwhile, a person questioned, “Who are 3-5 year techies? I know many IT guys/girls, they earn 20-25 LPA after 10 years of experience. Maybe few startup offer such high package to new guys but not they big tech.”

To this, Dutta responded, “Well, you will be surprised how much these it guys have started earning. 5 years 30 lacs is actually very common now.”

Other comments included, “Live in reality man…2% of PPL file ITR,25lpa is 0.4% of the population most probably,” while another quipped, “Bro lives in an alternate universe.”

“Only 20 out of 1000 will get this pay We need to consider more realistic average pay,” one more user added.

This isn’t the first time Dutta’s views have stirred controversy online. In June, he created a buzz by sharing a detailed table categorizing wealth based on net worth. According to his classification, individuals with a net worth of Rs 10 lakh are deemed “poor,” while those with a net worth of Rs 50 lakh are categorized as “middle class.”

The post sparked a wave of diverse opinions, with users debating about the definitions of wealth.
