Australian tennis maverick Nick Kyrgios, who decided to sit out the Australian Open this year citing injury issues, seems to have taken to the commentary with relative ease.

Kyrgios was seen in the commentary box during reigning champion Novak Djokovic’s third-round game in Melbourne against Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

Djokovic was handed a time violation before one of his serves during his 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 win over the Argentine player, which elicited a reaction from the player himself and Kyrgios in the commentary box.

“Not necessary. Ridiculous, just ridiculousness,” Kyrgios said over the microphone.

“It is like they get bored and just want to say something instead of the score,” Kyrgios passed a snarky comment about the umpire.

“Completely ruins the flow of the match,” the 28-year-old said.

When his co-commentator said, “Didn’t put Djokovic off his stride”, Kyrgios concurred stating that, “It gave him more time to compose himself.”

Following the conclusion of the game the presenters at the in-house EuroSport show were discussing how relaxed Kyrgios seemed in the commentary box.

“Is Nick looking a bit too comfortable in the commentary box,” a presenter asked.

“We don’t want him to be here forever. We want to see him back on court,” the presenter reasoned.

“But he’s doing a great job,” he lauded Kyrgios.

“It means he feels like he is at home now, which I like to see,” said another co-presenter.

“He’s very much part of the team, isn’t he?” she said.

Kyrgios withdrew from his home nation major following the surgery he had to undergo due to his troublesome knee injury.

Defending champion Djokovic, who is in search of his record-extending 11th championship in Melbourne, breezed into the quarterfinal of the tournament with his win over Adrian Mannarino of France in the fourth round following his win over Etcheverry.

Djokovic stormed past the Frenchman, winning the fixture 6-0, 6-0, 6-3 to ease into the quarters of the year’s first major.
