Xiaomi phones are affordable and many would call them value for money. But the company also dishes out a lot of ads and annoying notifications from its pre-loaded apps. Well, it seems the brand is finally ready to hear our wishes and give us an easy way to block and disable all such ads on their devices.
Recent details this month claim that Xiaomi is already testing the option to have a system-wide ads disable feature which should be available through phone settings. The report says that Xiaomi 13 Pro is being used to test the build before the final version is ready for a public rollout.
No More Ads, Yes Please!
One of the biggest reasons why Xiaomi has managed to deliver products at a lower price than competition is its alleged deals with developers who can pre-load their apps and also get monetised through ads.
For phones that are in the sub-Rs 20,000 segment, that is a legitimate strategy but seeing the same come to the premium range takes the sheen out of the products in some ways. You can already remove ads but the process can be tedious and you have to go through multiple loops to finally disable seeing them. Having the toggle means the user has the control on if they want to see the ads or not. In case, some of them don’t mind the ads, Xiaomi will happily continue to serve these groups.
The Big Picture
If and when Xiaomi releases this system-wide ads disable tool, it will convince a lot more people to consider its phones in the market. We have seen the company change its tune on software and the release of HyperOS raises the stakes for the brand which is now aiming for an ecosystem-level integration of the platform.
The last thing Xiaomi would want is for the premium electric car lineup to little the in-car display with ads. Bringing the easy way to disable ads will be a much-needed boost for the consumers and also make them believe in the brand and its promises.
