Leading smartphone brand Vivo kickstarts its 2024 journey in India with the launch of its flagship Vivo X100 series– Vivo X100 Pro and X100. Both the smartphones are focussed at offering superior camera experience powered with new algorithms and Zeiss lens. The Vivo X100 Pro variant aims to take on premium Android flagships from brands like Samsung, OnePlus, Oppo and others with the focus on two key aspects– making zoom useful in smartphone cameras and easy portraits, so that the user doesn’t have to juggle around camera settings. Another key aspect is the fact that there’s a new ZEISS apochromatic telephoto lens that helps users shoot high quality portraits even at 10X zoom.

Vivo X100 Pro specifications
The Vivo X100 Pro comes with a 6.78-inch 3D Curved AMOLED FHD+ with 120Hz variable refresh rate. Vivo is using an 8T LTPO panel. Vivo has deployed newer technology to offer improved viewing experience along with eye protection features.
There’s V-ProMotion technology for the first time that adjusts the screen’s frame rate based on user preferences. The LTPO screen refresh rate optimisation offers more scenes at 1 Hz which reduces power consumption along with optimisation of GPU frame rate and reduced display latency. The eye protection features include blue light control and 2160 Hz high-frequency dimming among others. There’s an in-display fingerprint sensor.
The Vivo X100 Pro is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 9300 chipset with the new V3 imaging chip, G720 GPU and 10MB system cache. The chipset is based on the new Armv9.2 Architecture. There’s 16GB RAM and 512GB internal memory.
In terms of the camera, there are three at the back– Main: 50 MP IMX989, OIS, 1-Inch Sensor; Ultra-wide – 50 MP JN1 AF; Portrait – 50 MP OV64B, 4X Optical 100X Floating Telephoto ZEISS, powered by the V3 imaging chip.
Vivo has paid great attention to the zoom camera of the phone and has supplied it with the 100mm ZEISS APO floating periscope camera. Now, that’s too much jargon! APO means “Apochromatic lens”. What does it do? Apochromatic lenses (APO) claim to offer the best color correction capabilities. This means the red flower which you try to click under direct sunlight will not have hints of orange or yellow. The colours will be accurate as APO controls chromatic aberration.
Another aspect is “floating camera”. What is it? This is quite different from the traditional periscope camera and the floating periscope telephoto puts a lens in front of the prism to form a grouped structure. According to Vivo, the floating periscope design and ZEISS APO lens, the camera can offer f/2.5 aperture in the same size making it possible to get good quality images be it at 6X or 10X scenarios zoom and even under dark lighting conditions. Also, to help users shoot better zoom pictures, there’s a new stabilization system as well. Along with this, there’s a 15mm ultra-wide angle camera with ISOCELL JN1 sensor and f/2.0 aperture.
For selfies there’s a 32MP fixed focus camera with night and portrait modes. The Vivo X100Pro is powered by a 5,400 mAh battery with 100W FlashCharge and 50W Wireless support. The device is IP68 dust and water resistant along with support for Wi-Fi 7. It comes with Dual Nano sim card slots and eSIM support.
Vivo X100 specifications
The Vivo X100 comes with similar tech specs but the camera, battery capacity and imaging chip are different. Instead of the flagship grade camera on the Vivo X100 Pro, the sibling comes with Main – 50 MP VCS IMX920, f/1.57, OIS; Ultra-wide – 50 MP JN1 AF; Portrait – 64 MP OV64B, 3X Optical 100X Digital (Telephoto) ZEISS. It is powered by the V2 imaging chip. There’s a 5,000 mAh battery with 120W flash charge support. The device will be available in 12GB + 256GB and 16GB + 512GB memory options.
Both smartphones run on Funtouch OS14 and come with a three-year OS update promise. The new operating system introduces several features such as the RAM Saver, which optimises background processes, Mini Window for effortless multitasking, and Motion Blur for smoother visual transitions.
Like all vivo devices, vivo X100 Series will be made in India at Vivo’s Greater Noida facility that has around 10000 employees.
