Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi will seemingly launch its first smart TV in India this year. During the launch of the Redmi Note 10 series on March 4, Xiaomi India Managing Director Manu Kumar Jain stated that Redmi would launch something “bigger” in the country after expanding its portfolio with power banks, audio accessories, and wearables. Redmi already sells smart TV models along with laptops in its home country China. Whereas, Xiaomi sells its smart TV models in India under its Mi brand. Redmi is yet to share more details over the upcoming product.
At the Redmi Note 10 launch on March 5, Jain stated (via Gadgets 360), “Last year, our Redmi brand took a huge step forward towards its journey into new categories. We began our phone-plus strategy and we launched many new product categories such as power banks, TWS, and the fitness band. And this year, in 2021, we are proud to introduce something bigger.”
Redmi introduced its first TV in China, the Redmi Smart TV 98-inch last year. The company, over the months, have introduced a variety of products at different price points. Recently, Xiaomi brought the Redmi Max 86-inch Ultra HD TV that was launched alongside the Redmi K40-series smartphones in China. Xiaomi and Redmi smart TVs compete directly against Vivo, Realme, and Oppo smart TVs in China – the three brands under the conglomerate BBK Electronics. In India, except for Vivo, both Oppo and Realme sell select TV models. All the brands also compete against global brands such as Vu, TCL, Samsung, Onida, and more.
Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi has also brought the new Redmi Note 10, Redmi Note 10 Pro, and Redmi Note 10 Pro Max in India with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors and quad rear cameras. The top-model Redmi Note 10 Pro Max is currently the most affordable device with a 108-megapixel primary camera in India. Jain has also teased that Xiaomi might soon break away from Redmi, as the latter will operate as an independent brand – as it did with Poco last year. However, several Poco phones continue to launch as rebranded Mi or Redmi phones around the world. The devices still run on the MIUI interface developed by Xiaomi.
