Chiranjeevi is currently going through a career dent. The Megastar, who was once dubbed ‘Bigger Than Bachchan’ by Filmfare and India Today in the 90s, is now struggling to deliver a hit. Almost all of his recent releases have not met the kind of response that Chiranjeevi was used to in his heyday. His most recent outing, Bhola Shankar, was a disaster at the box office with audiences and critics calling the film dated and obsolete. Chiranjeevi has now decided to explore the fantasy genre with the tentatively titled Mega 156, which may be a redeeming project for him. Another interesting news is doing the rounds, which suggests that Chiraneevi may return to Kannada cinema after 22 years.
Kannada actor Darshan is doing an untitled movie with director Prem, which is supposed to start production in June next year. If reports are to be believed, Chiranjeevi will most likely be playing an extended cameo in this film. Sources say that Prem met Chiranjeevi in Hyderabad on December 22 and narrated the script to him. Chiranjeevi has shown interest towards the project and may give his nod very soon. Chiranjeevi’s official confirmation on this has not been received yet.
Chiraneevi’s last Kannada film was in the late 90s, when he appeared in Sipayi (1996) alongside Ravichandran. The new project with Darshan may take some time to kick off, as director Prem is now busy filming the pan-India film KD alongside Dhruva Sarja. The film is supposed to be a two part epic.
Coming back to Mega 156, the movie also marks Chiranjeevi’s return to the fantasy genre after a considerable hiatus. Vassishta, who directed Bimbisara, will be directing Chiranjeevi in Mega 156. Chiranjeevi’s daughter Sushmita Konidela, who is bankrolling his next project, will serve as the costume designer in Mega 156.V Vamsi Krishna Reddy, Pramod Uppalapati, and Vikram Reddy are producing Mega 156 under the banner of UV Creations.
