Rampur: Notwithstanding the campaign marred by mudslinging and intra-party feud, Samajwadi Party candidate Jaya Prada on Saturday won the Rampur Lok Sabha seat defeating her nearest Congress rival Noor Bano Begum by 30,931 votes.
She polled 2,30,724 votes compared to Bano's 1,99,793.
Though the victory margin came down for the 47-year-old cine star, Jaya Prada said that the development work carried out by her should be credited for her win.
“People are really happy with the work done by me. The constituency has seen a sea change in terms of road connectivity and the number of bridges that have come up,” she said.
Jaya, who had won the seat by 67,000 votes last time, blamed the campaign launched by rebel party leader Azam Khan against her for the reduction in the vote margin.
“Division among the ranks led to fall in the victory margin," she added.
Both Azam and Bano could not be reached for their comments.
