All India Congress Committee (AICC) in charge of Haryana Deepak Babaria on Tuesday talked about the possibility of wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia fighting the upcoming Assembly elections in the state on Congress ticket. Babaria said that 41 seats were discussed in the CEC meeting on Tuesday, adding that there was no discussion on either Vinesh or Bajrang’s candidature in the meeting.

“Vinesh Phogat’s or Bajrang Punia’s names are not among them. I think, there will be clarity over this by the day after tomorrow,” said Babaria when asked if the names of Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia are among the 32 candidates that have been finalised earlier.

Speaking about the possibility of an alliance between Congress and AAP for the Haryana Assembly elections 2024, Babaria noted that the alliance talk is in a very “primitive mode”. “A sub-committee has been formed to talk to AAP on an alliance,” he added.

Earlier in the day, AAP welcomed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s idea of an alliance between the two parties in Haryana ahead of the elections for the 90-member state assembly.

Reacting positively to the proposition of the Leader of the Opposition of Lok Sabha, AAP MP Sanjay Singh said, “We welcome it. Our priority is to defeat the BJP. Our Haryana in-charge Sandeep Pathak and Sushil Gupta will discuss it and take a final decision and inform Arvind Kejriwal about it and a decision will be taken accordingly.”

The 90-member Haryana Assembly will go to polls on October 5. The counting of votes will take place on October 8.
