It seems Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message on religious harmony has had no impact on Sangh Parivar leaders. Just a day after Modi during an election rally in Bihar exhorted people to fight against poverty and not each other, Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah asked why Dadri-like incidents happen only in Uttar Pradesh and not in other BJP ruled states.
Shah on Friday hit out at the Samajwadi Party saying its policy of minority appeasement led to the lynching of 50-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq in Bishada village of Gautam Buddh Nagar district by a mob following rumours that his family was consuming beef.
Union Women and Child Development Ministry Maneka Gandhi, too, defended the some of the accused arrested in the case. "Two boys who were not even present in Dadri have also been named. Papers are coming up with now names every day. SP government is spreading fales information and is trying to manipulate the case."
RSS leader Indresh Kumar on one hand said that the controversy should be brought to an end but at the same time said that all meat eaters should be nationalists.
"The Prime Minister and President both have spoken about harmony and we all should follow that and end this controversy. All meat advocates should become nationalists. Muslims who are meat advocates should become good Muslims. Those who have abused the RSS should realise their mistake," Kumar said.
Under pressure from all quarters, Modi on Thursday broke his silence on Dadri incident and said the fight should be against poverty and not against each other.
The remarks came a day after President Pranab Mukherjee raised concerns over the incidents of communal tensions in the country.
