New Delhi: The hanging of 26/11 convict Ajmal Amir Kasab has led to a round of political slugfest between the Congress-led Central government and the BJP. While the Congress as well the BJP have expressed satisfaction over Kasab's hanging, the latter has also questioned on the government's stand of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said that the whole country wanted Kasab's execution. "But why not Afzal Guru who attacked Parliament is being hanged," asked Javadekar. The government has been saying that Afzal Guru is in the queue and a decision on his fate would be taken soon.
BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the real masterminds of the Mumbai attacks are still in Pakistan. Prasad pointed out that Pakistan has taken no action against them despite several dossiers. Afzal has been found guilty and convicted in Parliament attack case.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi also questioned the Centre and asked when the final decision on Afzal would be taken while pointing that that his crime predates Kasab's by several years. BJP spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi called the government's decision to hang Kasab "better late than never".
He said Pakistan-born terrorists come to India and kill innocent people, but that country never permits the burial of any terrorist. He added that the time has come to punish all the terrorists who have eaten plenty of biryani in Indian jails.
