The Uttar Pradesh Assembly poll results could be an end for Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). This was the third successive defeat for her party. She lost power to Samajwadi Party in the 2012 assembly polls. Today (March 11) with the poll results Modi wave has sunk her party once again.
Why this loss may be an end of Mayawati’s party in UP?

# Defeat may create further divisions in her loyal Dalit caste base, with non-Jatav’s already graviating towards the BJP.
# Mayawati for the first time in many years will neither be in power nor her party will have a Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
# Five more years out of power could dishearten and demoralise the cadres and party may witness exodus.
# Her age, now 61, too isn’t by her side. 15 years is too long a time in politics to make a comeback.
# There is no succession plan in place and none in BSP has been nurtured to take her place.
