Playing its strong cards, Congress on Friday night announced 14 more candidates for Uttar Pradesh elections.

New Delhi: Playing its strong cards, Congress on Friday night announced 14 more candidates for Uttar Pradesh elections.

The total number of Congress candidates is now 60 for the first phase of polls, indicating thereby that there were major hitches in the formation of a Fourth Front led by the party in the key state.

While 62 constituencies are going to polls in the first phase, Congress has named candidates for all except two seats.

The candidates announced on Friday are: Avinash Mishra (Chaubepur), Shishupal Yadav (Jaswant Nagar), Yuvraj Bhadoria (Hamirpur), Rajinder Lodhi (Rath), Kamlesh Verma (Charkhari-SC), Akbar Ali (Kalpi), Shivram Singh Kushwaha (Madhogarh), Upma Dixit (Bhongaon), Col. Naresh Yadav (Shikohabad), Nadira Begum (Patiali), Man Singh Verma (Soraon), Abhinav Chaturvedi (Firozabad), Rajesh Tiwari (Bah) and Ram Tandon (Agra East).

The announcement came a day after former Prime Minister V P Singh announced that Jan Morcha-led alliance would contest 193 seats.
