Two Key Assam Cong Leaders, Including PCC Working Prez, Extend Support to BJP; Himanta Sarma Reacts
After two of his associates joined the BJP, APCC president Bhupen Bora said "Slowly Assam Congress is becoming HIMANTA free. All loyalists to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma are leaving Congress"

In a dramatic turn of events in Assam politics, two Congress MLAs, including the party’s Assam unit President Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha extended all-out support to the Bharatiya Janata Party government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, the working president of APCC and MLA from North Karimganj met the chief minister in his chambers along with another party MLA from Mangaldoi constituency Basanta Das. The meeting was held during the ongoing assembly session.

After the meeting, CM Sarma said Congress leaders in Assam are not abiding by Rahul Gandhi’s direction which means they stand with the BJP.

“Rahul Gandhi asked Congress leaders to tear me off, but no one did anything, that means all are with me, but we can’t accommodate all,” Sarma said while addressing media outside Janata Bhavan on Wednesday.

“Both the Congress leaders informed their willingness to extend every support to the led government but the party is forbidding their MLAs to participate in any govt. programmes. As a result, they can’t express their problems on the proper platform. This is the reason previously two Congress MLAs Siddique Ahmed and Sashikant Das extended support to our government. Of course, later Congress expelled them, but they could perform better for their constituencies,” Sarma said.

Sarma added that only because of Rahul Gandhi’s wrong strategy and weak leadership, the Congress party today is almost destroyed.

Rahul’s Nyay Yatra is Anyay Yatra: Himanta Saema

Calling Rahul’s Nyay Yatra, Anyay Yatra, CM Sarma said Gandhi is not carrying out a “Bharat Jodo Yatra” but a “Bharat Todo Yatra.”

About the BJP plan for the Lok Sabha Elections, Sarma said more Congress leaders might join the saffron camp in Assam.

“All of them may not be MLAs but they are responsible leaders. Even today they are in contact with me, who proposed to join the BJP; but I can’t make the decision alone. I have to discuss this within our party, have to take permission from senior leaders,” Sarma added.

Congress is Becoming Himanta Free: Bhupen Bora

After two of his associates joined the BJP, APCC president Bhupen Bora said “Slowly Assam Congress is becoming HIMANTA free. All loyalists to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma are leaving Congress one after another. We’ll discuss everything in the AICC meeting,” Bora said.

“There are many MLAs, presently in BJP who had cases of corruption previously but now, after joining BJP they are purified. I have received a resignation letter from Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha. It will be sent to AICC,” he added.
