TN: CPI-M calls police firing barbaric
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has ordered a judicial probe into the incident.

Chennai: AIADMK's ally CPI-M on Tuesday described as barbaric, the police firing at Paramakudi on Sunday, in which seven people were killed and said it would stage state-wide protest on Saturday to demand action against the guilty police officials.

The police could have averted untoward incidents if they had anticipated the situation and planned accordingly, CPI(M) state unit secretary G Ramakrishnan said in a statement.

While Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has ordered a judicial probe into the incident, no action had been taken against the police officials who opened fire, he said.

"The party's state executive has decided to stage state-wide protest to condemn the police officials who fired at the people and to demand their suspension," he said and urged all democratic forces to join hands.
