TMC Gives Notice to Rajya Sabha for Discussion on India-China Standoff

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress has given a notice to Rajya Sabha for a discussion on the ongoing standoff between India and China, having implications on West Bengal, too.

Sources said that TMC wished to raise the issue under rule 267 so that proceedings of the listed business of the House could be suspended, and this issue could be discussed on a priority.

"We are going to raise the matter with the Centre and how it has worsened our relations with our neighbours. It has implications on West Bengal. We will ask how the Centre has failed to keep our border secure. Not just China, we will also ask the Centre how anti-social elements from Bangladesh are entering Bengal to create violence. This is all happening due to Centre's poor border-management policy," a source said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “Border issues will be raised seriously in the Parliament. The relations with Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh have worsened. We share our borders with these countries. What will happen if China takes control of Sikkim? What will happen to the chicken-neck of Siliguri region?" "The Centre has worsened the relations with our neighbours due to wrong policies,” she asked.

Mamata emphasised that the country needs cordial relations with Bangladesh, adding that she has information about Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) which burnt effigies of Sheikh Hasina on July 1.

"Why was it allowed? How is the VHP giving arms training to children in the name of Durga Vahini (in Assam)? Parallel governments are being run in the name of Gau-rakshaks and Vahinis. Where is the RAW, IB, NSA and NIA? ” she questioned.

“Close to Pashupati gate near Darjeeling more than four hundred schools have mushroomed where the Chinese language is being taught. Who allowed that to happen? We want an explanation from the Centre. The Jamaat – who is also fighting Sheikh Hasina – was allowed to enter through Saatkheera and incite communal violence through videos. People here believe in harmony and we thwarted their efforts. But, the question remains, who allowed them to enter?” she said.

Raising the Kashmir issue, she said, “We will continue to raise our voice for Kashmir issue, attack on Amarnath pilgrims, Aadhaar card, Violence in the name of gau-raksha, systemic efforts to break the federal structure. They have pushed the country backwards with demonetisation. Notebandi and GST have become instruments of corruption. How much of black money was recovered? The country is yet to know. All sections of the society are under attack, including the media. Various agencies are being misused. We are the worst sufferers. We are the victims of the circumstances.”
