Many actresses, working in the entertainment field, have succeeded in their careers but have fallen behind in their personal lives. One such television and film actress is Jaya Bhattacharya. Jaya is well-known for playing antagonists in television series. She came into the limelight after appearing to play the role of Payal in Ekta Kapoor’s soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. She also portrayed Jigyasa Bali in Kasamh Se, Sakku Bai in Jhansi Ki Rani and Sudha Buaa in Gangaa.
In a media interaction, Jaya shared that her mother was a famous singer. Initially, she also wanted to be a classical singer and dancer in her early days. She also started studying. But within some time she realised that she was most inclined towards acting and followed her passion.
She regained her popularity with her role as Vasundhara Pandey in the drama series Thapki Pyar Ki (2015–2017). She appeared in Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka (2018–2019) and then she played the role of Veena Devi in Thapki Pyar Ki 2.
Apart from daily soaps, she also worked in minor roles in Bollywood films Devdas and Lajja. Bhattacharya had a cameo appearance in the 2000s Hindi film Fiza, starring Karisma Kapoor as the main lead. She also appeared in the film Jigyaasa, where she portrayed a filmmaker who wants to do a documentary about a controversial actress. This character was similar to Alice Patten’s role in the Indian movie Rang De Basanti. She also acted in Kasamh Se as Jigyasa in 2007, in the same role.
She is currently seen in the television series Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya. This series aired on Sun Neo under the banner of Story Square Productions on June 16, 2024. It stars Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Brinda Dahal and Ashish Dixit in the lead roles. It also stars Sara Khan, Jaya Bhattacharya, Urmila Singh, Ishita Ganguly, Abha Parmar and Krishna Arora in other pivotal roles.
Earlier, she was seen in the Hindi-language drama television series Imlie. The show was produced by Gul Khan under 4 Lions Films. It is said to be one of the longest-running Indian television soap operas.
