Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, kick-starting the campaign for Lok Sabha polls at Indravelli in Adilabad district, said Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will soon launch the Rs 500 gas cylinder scheme in the state. This was one of the guarantees mentioned in the Congress election manifesto.
The next scheme to be launched, he said, is free electricity up to 200 units. Besides these, he promised that the cabinet will soon take a decision to fill 15,000 vacancies for constables.
Tribals constitute almost 32 per cent of the population in Adilabad district. At present, BJP’s Soyam Bapu Rao is the MP from here.
“If we talk about the heroes of Telangana, Ramji Gond and Komaram Bheem will find a special mention. That is why we have started development work from this area. In the last 10 years, the BRS government did nothing for the families of the martyrs of Indravelli massacre. We have to now rebuild this state which has been destroyed by the KCR family. An amount of Rs 40 lakh crore was looted in the name of Mission Bhagiratha. Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, on which crores were spent, is sinking. KCR never thought about anyone except his own family members,” the chief minister said at a public meeting.
The Adivasi Factor
After announcing that the BC Caste Census Bill will be debated in the upcoming Budget session of the assembly, Reddy laid the foundation of Indravelli Memorial during his visit on Friday.
In 1981, many Gond Adivasis were killed in police firing at this site. Though official reports say only 13 persons lost their lives, unofficial estimates peg the number at around 100.
Before this, Reddy visited the Nagoba temple in Keslapur and laid the foundation for development work worth Rs 5 crore in the temple. This temple in Adilabad district is famous for Nagoba Jathara which concluded on January 28. It is one of the largest tribal festivals in the country.
After this, the chief minister distributed bank linkage cheques worth Rs 60 crore among women self-help groups.
