Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Friday condemned the attack on actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut, who was allegedly slapped by a woman CISF constable at the Chandigarh airport, while also emphasising the importance of respecting farmers.
“Some people give votes, and some give slaps. I don’t know what actually happened. If the constable has said that her mother was also sitting, then it is true. If her mother was there in the farmer’s agitation and someone said anything against it, then it would create anger,” Raut told the media in response to the incident.
“But if PM Modi says that there should be the rule of law, then it should not be taken into hands. The people in the farmer’s agitation were sons and daughters of India. If someone insults Bharat Mata and someone is offended by it, then it is something to think about. I have sympathy for Kangana. She is an MP now. An MP should not be attacked but the farmers should also be respected,” he added.
In a video message on Thursday, Ranaut claimed she was struck in the face and verbally abused by a CISF constable during a security check at the Chandigarh airport. The incident occurred just two days after her election to the Lok Sabha from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.
In a video statement titled “Shocking rise in terror and violence in Punjab” posted on X after arriving in Delhi on Thursday, Kangana Ranaut assured her followers that she was safe and fine following the incident.
The constable, Ranaut had said, came towards her from the side. “She hit me in the face and started abusing me. I asked her why she did it and she said she supports the farmer protests.” “I am safe but my concern is that terrorism and extremism are increasing in Punjab… How do we handle that?”, Ranaut had said.
The constable, reportedly upset with Ranaut’s stance on the farmers’ protests, has been suspended, and an investigation is underway. Additionally, the CISF, responsible for airport security, has initiated a court of inquiry into the matter.
