Siddaramaiah cracks whip, decides to return non-Kannada files
A Karnataka government rule makes it mandatory for all government officials to use Kannada in official business. They can even be fined, if they don't follow it.

Bangalore: The Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has served an ultimatum to all bureaucrats on the use of Kannada in official work. He has instructed the bureaucrats to prepare all files in Kannada or face action.

Speaking to IBNLive from Bangalore, he said, "I have returned more than 200 files which were in English. Our state language is Kannada and all files must be in our language. It is non-negotiable. We must follow Tamil Nadu model, where Tamil is used 100% in all official businesses. If I get files in English, I will return them. We must uphold the primacy of Kannada."

He added that those who think that certain things like IT, BT etc can't be written in Kannada must go to China or Japan to study how they do in their languages.
