New Delhi: After Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik claimed he dissolved the state Assembly as he did not want to invite BJP-backed People's Conference, Sajad Lone accused the Governor of distorting facts.
"I have been watching for the last three to four days that there has been a misrepresentation of facts and gross distortion of certain events that unfolded in J&K by some people and unfortunately, especially the Governor of J&K," Lone told media on Tuesday.
Lone claimed the Governor asked him to send a fax, and that for full three hours his party tried unsuccessfully to do so. The Governor's secretary, who earlier put Sajad through to him, would not take the call either.
And while the PC was trying to send the fax through, the PDP put out a letter on the social media staking claim to form the government.
"I do not know whether she staked the claim on the basis of a potential claim that we were trying to make and had informed the Governor about or if she staked the claim on her own," said Sajad.
On November 21, hours after hours after the PDP staked claim to form a government with the backing of rival National Conference and the Congress, followed by competing bid from the two-member People’s Conference which claimed the support of the BJP and 18 MLAs from other parties, the Governor dissolved the Assembly.
"There are some people who believe that on the receipt of information that we are going to stake a claim, Mehbooba Mufti immediately put up a claim on Twitter... We had the numbers and would have emerged victorious in a constitutionally legitimate method. There should be no doubt about this," said Lone.
At an event in MP’s Gwalior, Malik had reportedly said that he chose to dissolve the Assembly instead of obliging either sides as he didn’t want to go down in history as a “dishonest” man. “If I looked at Delhi, I would have had to make Lone's sarkar. I would have gone down in history as a corrupt man. I ended the whole issue. Whoever has to abuse will do so, but I am convinced that I did the right thing,”
Under attack from the Opposition for his decision to dissolve the Assembly, Governor Malik claimed that “extensive horse-trading” was going on in the state and dismissed allegations that he was acting on the Centre’s directions.
“For the past 15 to 20 days, I have been getting reports of large-scale horse-trading. MLAs are being threatened and several types of underhanded dealings are going on,” Malik said.
Asked about the allegations of horse trading in the state, Lone said: "How can you call a constitutional solution horse trading? And where on earth would I get so much money to buy someone?"
On the other hand, NC vice-president Omar Abdullah and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on congratulated J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik for not "looking to Delhi" on government formation in the state and stopping the installation of a BJP government.
