New Delhi: Continuing with its investigation in the murder case of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Deepak Bhardwaj, the Delhi Police has claimed that Rs 6 crore was paid to eliminate him. Police sources say that self-styled godman Pratibhanand is merely a pawn in the entire game and the entire conspiracy was hatched by someone else.
Police officials suspect that the entire plan was hatched by people who were very close to Bhardwaj. The BSP leader's younger son has been detained and is being grilled by the investigators. They say that as Pratibhanand was in need of a large sum of money to build an ashram, so he readily agreed to eliminate Bhardwaj when he was offered Rs 2 crore to do so. The revelations have been made 13 days after Bhardwaj was allegedly gunned down by two people inside his farmhouse in Delhi.
But police are yet to apprehend the mastermind although they have arrested the two shooters and are trying to nab Pratibhanand around whom the whole investigation is now focussed. Police officials say that investigations have revealed that Pratibhanand was not the mastermind but just one of the people involved in killing Bhardwaj.
Sources say that the plan was no to kill Bhardwaj at the Nitesh Kunj farmhouse. The accused shooters Sunil Mann and Purushottam Rana had tried to kill Bhardwaj twice before he was murdered on March 26. One attempt was made in Haridwar but Purushottam's gun jammed.
Sources add Rs 6 crore were paid to the killers and others involved in killing Bhardwaj, whose business empire was worth almost Rs 3000 crore. They also claim that Pratibhanand was paid Rs 2 crore out of the same amount for his role.
Pratibhanand was in need of Rs 1.5 core to open an ashram and almost one and a half year ago he had surveyed several places in Haridwar, Karnal and Solan. He had also met many saints at Allahabad during the Maha Kumbh but could not finalise a location for his ashram.
As no one was ready to help him he finally chose the path of crime to realise his dream.
