New Delhi: Even as the Congress high command weighs on whether to sack Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister or not in the face of his strident opposition to Telangana, Kiran Kumar Reddy has warned the party of serious consequences following the state's bifurcation.

Speaking to CNN-IBN's Karan Thapar, Reddy predicted a death blow to the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh following the Centre's decision on Telangana.

When asked about Congress's electoral prospects after Telangana, the rebel CM said, "it is zero". But then he added that the state's bifurcation should not be restricted to just the polls. "We should look at the prospects of the people, the future of the people, the future of the state," he said.

Reddy also insisted that the Centre's decision to carve out Telangana is going to cost it in the years to come. "Electoral prospects is not what, it is going to be a death blow to Congress in the state of Andhra Pradesh for a very long time to come. This decision, one, I am not talking of electoral gains or losses when we are talking of a state," said Reddy.

Reddy, who is known as a staunch Congress loyalist, said that the party high command has failed to understand the problems that will follow after the state's bifurcation. "See they have not understood the problem. That is what it is hurting me. They have not understood why we are rebelling so much being a loyal Congress person for 20-25 years," he said.

Kiran Reddy has embarrassed his own party by going against it and agitating for a united Andhra when the Centre is pushing to get the Telangana draft Bill passed in Parliament. Reddy has even expressed his willingness to quit the party. "Power or chief ministership is not bigger to me than the will of the people. When I took up the fight for a united state, I was prepared for everything and took it up. I know what I'm doing," said a defiant Reddy earlier on Saturday.
