Punjab on Saturday voted in its first and only phase of Assembly elections and recorded an estimated 70 percent polling during which technical glitches and stray incidents of violence were reported in the state which is seeing a high-stake contest among Congress, new entrant AAP and ruling SAD-BJP combine.
“Nearly 70 percent polling has taken place,” an election office spokesman said giving the preliminary figures of poll percentage.
On Saturday evening, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal questioned Election Commission over the difference in voting timings in Goa and Punjab.
“As per EC notification, polling time in Goa from 7 am to 5 pm but in Punjab, it is from 8 am to 5 pm (one hr less). Why?” he asked on twitter.
