Kochi: On Thursday, the UDF will start staging street plays demonstrating various ‘anti-people policies’ of the LDF government. The brain behind the programme to be launched from Malampuzha, the constituency of Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, is none other than the daughter of Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy. The theme of the play revolves around the development of the state and the infighting in the CPM, says Achu Oommen, daughter of Oommen Chandy.
“Various issues which had vanished into oblivion like the ‘unholy nexus between the LDF leaders and lottery king Santiago Martin, the LIS and the row kicked up by Faris Aboobacker will find mention in the play,” Achu said. Characters resembling Sindhu Joy and P K Sreemathi will appear in the play, it is learnt. And certainly, the Kiliroor sex scandal case will also be an ingredient.
Though the rehearsal camp is progressing in Thiruvananthapuram, the name of the play has not been finalised yet. “It will be decided in consultation with the party leadership,” Achu said. Six actors and an actress will be there in the drama. A grandma will be presented as a shrewd narrator in the drama.
An exhibition of the video clippings of various controversial incidents during the stint of the Achuthanandan government has also been arranged in connection with the programme. An LCD projector on a campaign vehicle, which will accompany the street play troupe, will show the video clippings.
The drama is penned by Saneesh Kumar, Youth Congress Thrissur district president.
Achu will accompany the troupe all through the journey. She and her younger brother Chandy Oommen, who is the NSU Delhi state president, will address the gathering in the street meetings. According to the schedule, the street play can’t be staged all across the state. But, it may reach Alappuzha district when the campaign ends, the organisers said.
There are also plans to show CDs christened ‘Puthiya Keralam’ which delves deep into the ‘anti-people’ policies of the LDF government. But the CDs will be screened only if their quality matches expected standards, sources said.
