There is nothing wrong with Robert Vadra focusing on Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi Lok Sabha seat, Congress state incharge Avinash Pande told News18 on Friday. The Congress cadres though, he said, want Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to contest from Amethi and Raebareli and the leaders respect the sentiment.
“Robert Vadra has offered his services to the party and the party will take a decision. This way thousands of party workers offer their services. He has also volunteered, nothing wrong with that…Our CWC will take a call on that. From every area, hundreds of people express their wishes. He has also expressed his wish. He thinks if given a chance, he is ready to serve the party. We welcome it. There is no dispute because of that,” Pande told News18 on Friday.
Robert Vadra, the husband of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has said that he wants to contest from Amethi. The Congress is yet to declare its candidates for Amethi as well as Raebareli after Sonia Gandhi has shifted to the Rajya Sabha. Pande said there was no delay.
“There is time for the elections. The work there has already started. Only the candidate announcement has not been done. When the right time comes, we will announce the candidates. There is no delay,” Pande told News18.
He said the entire Congress cadre wants Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to fight the Lok Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh.
“Amethi and Raebareli people want that, and our cadre in all of Uttar Pradesh wants that. They (Rahul and Priyanka) have been informed and they respect this sentiment,” Pande told News18. He said it was up to Rahul and Priyanka to contest from either Amethi or Raebareli when asked which seats he would want them to pick.
