New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Vidya Charan Shukla is critical and has been operated upon at Gurgaon's Medanta Hospital. The 84-year-old Shukla was airlifted to Medanta from a Raipur Hospital early on Sunday morning following the injuries suffered during a Naxal attack in Chhttisgarh's Jagdalpur district on Saturday afternoon.
Police officials say Shukla suffered three bullet injuries during the attack and had lost a lot of blood. Medanta Medical Superintendent Dr Avadesh Kumar Dubey said, "Vidya Charan shukla is being treated by a multi-disciplinary team of doctors. He was shifted by a air ambulance from Raipur. His condition is still critical."
The former union minister on Saturday underwent an operation in Jagdalpur hospital for removal of three bullets he had received in the attack.
Heavily-armed Naxals ambushed a convoy of Congress leaders on Saturday, killing 27 people including senior Congress leader and Salwa Judum founder Mahendra Karma, and injuring Shukla and 31 others.
