The Showsha Reel Awards 2024 nominations were announced recently and all eyes are on the Best Film category. The year 2023 witnessed back-to-back box office successes throughout the year. On one hand, Shah Rukh Khan set a new benchmark after collecting Rs 1000 crores at the box office twice last year, Ranbir Kapoor also hit the jackpot with Animal, recording his biggest box office hit of his career. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani also brought families back to the cinema halls.

Given the many hit films of the year, narrowing it down to just seven movies in this category was tough. But we’ve managed to pick out seven of the best films of the year and we present to you these nominations for you to vote for your favourite. Take a look:

Showsha Reel Awards 2024 Nomination For Best Film:

Pathaan: Shah Rukh Khan kicked off 2023 with a bang with Pathaan. Co-starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, Pathaan introduced the trio to YRF’s spy universe. The film recorded an opening weekend collection of Rs 280.75 cr. and collected a worldwide lifetime collection of Rs 1050.3 cr.

Jawan: Shah Rukh was on a roll in 2023. After Pathaan, he returned with Jawan. Directed by Atlee, the film loaded a double treat for SRK fans. The film featured the superstar in a double role, each romancing with Deepika Padukone and Nayanthara. The film recorded a worldwide lifetime box office collection of Rs 1148.32 cr.

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani: Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani gave us a family entertainer we’d been craving for a few years now. With the help of Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi, Karan Johar brought back his OG elements on the screen. This resulted in the film earning Rs 355.61 cr. worldwide.

Gadar 2: Sunny Deol not only roared on the big screen but also at the box office with Gadar 2. Bringing back the nostalgia of the OG film after 22 years, Sunny had everyone on board with Tara Singh’s fight against the neighbours. As a result, Gadar 2 collected Rs 691.08 cr. worldwide.

Animal: Ranbir Kapoor and Sandeep Vanga Reddy explored daddy issues in the most violent way possible with Animal. The film, released in December, revolved around a son seeking his father’s love, attention and validation. The subject and film were a hit among viewers. Animal went on to collect Rs 917.76 cr. worldwide.

Dunki: Shah Rukh ended the year with a bang courtesy Dunki. The film, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, revolved around illegal immigration. The subject touched many who have left their homes in search of better livelihood, thus resulting in the film collecting Rs 470.60 cr.

Bawaal: Starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, Nitish Tiwari stepped out of his comfort zone to deliver a thought-provoking film with Bawaal. The film not only had a unique storyline but also featured stellar performances by the lead actors.
