Kohima: A total of 255 companies of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) have been deployed for smooth conduct of the February 23 Nagaland Assembly elections, a senior official said.
A total of 255 companies of CAPF have been deployed to ensure cent per cent coverage of 2023 polling stations spread over the state, Deputy Chief Election Commissioner Sudhir Tripathi told PTI.
This is unprecedented deployment of the central forces as compared to the 168 companies deployed for the conduct of 2008 Assembly elections. Tripathi also said that none of the local police would be deployed in the polling stations but they will be utilized as additionality.
Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, J Alam said that 174 polling parties left for their stations on Thursday while another 1849 would be leaving on Friday, which also consist a total of 76 all women polling parties.
The state has 2023 polling stations, out of which 759 have been identified as hyper sensitive, 698 as sensitive and 566 as normal.
Alam also said that as per the directive of Election Commission for maintenance of peace till yesterday, a total of 776 unlicensed arms have been seized while 2818 licensed arms were deposited in various police stations in the state.
The cash seized from various candidates of political parties during the campaigning period amounts to Rs 2.89 crore, Alam said.
Despite being a dry state, a total of 3509 cases of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) were seized by different agencies till yesterday, sources said.
The state goes to polls on Saturday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, with a total of 11,93,438 voters to decide the fate of the 188 politicians, including two women candidates.
