New Delhi: Was actor Sanjay Dutt referring to Law Minister HR Bharadwaj when he told CNN-IBN on Tuesday that a senior Cabinet minister was threatening him? With the latest attack from SP leader Amar Singh, are the SP-Congress ties finally over?
Amar Singh had said, “Let me tell you one more startling fact. A senior Cabinet minister threatened Sanjay Dutt saying that you are going to SP, we will jeopardise your life.”
But after making this revelation, both Singh and Sanjay refused to name the minister who had made that alleged threat.
After a night of festering rumours in Delhi political circles about who that minister could be, top SP sources say that the minister is HR Bharadwaj.
Sources also reveal that there were requests from the SP to the Law Ministry to see to it that Sanjay is allowed to contest Lok Sabha elections and that the Supreme Court gives the go ahead to the actor.
But Sanjay was allegedly told that if he contested on a SP ticket then his cases could go against him.
With the apex court dashing Sanjay's ambitions, the anger of Amar and Sanjay was unrestrained.
Congress sources reveal that the matter is also linked to SP chief Mulayam Singh's disproportionate assets case. There have been feelers from the SP to Congress leaders to do something about it, but the helplessness expressed by the Government on this issue was not taken too kindly by the SP top brass.
Congress, of course, has brushed off the entire issue.
“I doubt very much if any Cabinet minister, particularly in this Government, would have actually done such a thing,” Congress Spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan said.
Singh’s latest attack against the Congress may be seen as the last nail in the coffin of the SP-congress relationship. But then politicians often live in hope and who knows that after the Lok Sabha elections they may be back together again.
