New Delhi: Mani Shankar Aiyar's jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi has backfired at the Congress leader himself. Speaking to a Pakistani channel, Aiyer said that Modi should be removed in order to solve the long-standing Kashmir dispute. Aiyar had said that the bitterness between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir 'dispute' can be resolved if Modi was removed as PM.
The Bharatiya Janata Party claimed that leaders hould not give statements against the PM on foreign soil as it leaves a negative impact. "People should unite behind the PM. To give an image that our country is divided is not a positive thing and should be avoided," Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Manoj Jha also echoed Rijiju's comments and termed them baseless. "Whether we are in government or against Narendra Modi, we mustn't make comments like this in a foreign land. Foreign influence in Indian politics is not needed, not welcome. Unnecessary, incorrect statements by Aiyar," he said.
However, lawyer and Nationalist Congress Party leader Majeed Memon asserted that there was nothing anti-national in Aiyer's comments. "Leaders should be responsible while speaking abroad but Mani is merely an MP. He does not hold any post, except being a Congress MP. He spoke against a leader, his party and his ideology, so I don't think it is anything anti-national," he said.
