Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan tendered his resignation on Monday to Governor S C Jamir ahead of his swearing-in for a second term in the top slot in the state.

The governor accepted the resignation and asked him and his council of ministers to continue in office till the swearing-in was held.

Chavan is likely to stake claim to form the next government in the state after the NCP legislature party elects its new leader later on Monday.

During his meeting with the Governor at Raj Bhavan, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Mumbai Congress President and former Minister Kripashankar Singh.
