Banglore: To ensure proper medical services in rural areas, the state government is mulling over introducing a legislation in the next session, making minimum service at the taluk and district levels mandatory for new medical graduates.
Karnataka Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda, while informing this in the Assembly in reply to a call attention notice raised by Congress member N Sampangi on providing adequate medical facilities, said that the legislation would be introduced in next session.
"The government had recruited about 600 doctors with specialisation three years ago, most of whom shied away from rural areas. As many as 1,200 doctors recruited earlier failed to remain in village and taluk levels," he said.
The state government will urge the Centre to address the problems being faced by those living in surrounding villages of the Kaiga atomic power project in Uttara Kannada district, who have been staging a demonstration for the last 15 days.
Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Visveshwar Hegde Kageri informed this to the Assembly during the Question Hour.
