Will Jagadish Shettar, who was inched out in the secret ballot be made the deputy CM?

New Delhi: Karnataka is all set to have a new chief minister with former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa's nominee DV Sadananda Gowda being sworn in on Thursday.

Gowda was elected as the BJP Legislature party leader on Wednesday. He will be administered the oath of office by Governor HR Bhardwaj at the Raj Bhavan. Gowda decided to advance his swearing-in by a day, in view of President Pratibha Patil's three-day visit to the city starting from August 5.

On Wednesday, the Karnataka governor acting on the Lokayukta report, gave sanction for prosecution of Yeddyurappa who was indicted in the mining scam.

Gowda won the secret ballot for the post of the Karnataka chief minister on Wednesday. Gowda won the secret ballot by 8 votes and was elected as the legislative party chief, BJP sources told CNN-IBN.

Gowda spoke to CNN-IBN after he was chosen as the next chief minister of Karnataka. "There is a tough task ahead for me. We will try and not to have any difference of opinion amongst the party members," said Gowda.

58-year-old Sadananda Gowda, a lawyer by profession is a Lok Sabha MP from Udupi, Chikmagalur and is the former state BJP chief.

Yeddyurappa stepped down as the Karnataka Chief Minister after pressure from the BJP top brass following his indictment in the Karnataka Lokayukta report on illegal mining.
