Goa Witnesses Rise, While Punjab Sees Steep Fall in Voter Turnout

New Delhi: Punjab and Goa went to polls in the states' first and only phase in a triangular battle between SAD-BJP combine, Congress and an emerging Aam Aadmi Party.

The voter turnout in 2017 Goa Assembly elections stood at a staggering 83%, which could go further up when the voting stops. Goa witnessed an increase of at least 1% this year as the turn-out during 2012 assembly elections was 81.73%.

During 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, the voter turn-out was 77% in the two parliamentary seats in the state. In Punjab, however, the turnout was 70.61%.

The state of Punjab, which went to polls on Saturday, had a voter turnout of 70%. Punjab witnessed a steep fall in the turn-out this time from 78% in 2012 Assembly Elections to 70% this year.
