Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called a cabinet meeting on Tuesday amid growing voices in his camp asking for the resignation of deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav.
Janata Dal (United) spokesman, Nikhil Mandal, hinted at Nitish being forced to take a tough decision if Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav fails to ensure Tejashwi’s resignation.
“Our leader’s stand on corruption is clear. The decision has to be taken by the RJD,” said Mandal, but declined to comment on Nitish asking Tejashwi to resign or the CM sacking the deputy in the cabinet meeting itself.
Speculation is rife that Nitish will try to avoid Tejashwi but as a cabinet minister the latter is supposed to participate in the meeting. Even during the last cabinet meeting Nitish did not interact with his deputy and gave the media a miss.
On the other hand, Tejashwi came out from the meeting, decided to go public, and claimed that all charges against him were politically motivated.
As Tejashwi and the RJD dismiss any possibility of a resignation, the ball is now in Nitish’s court. The Bihar CM, known to take those facing corruption charges to the task, has been silent.
However, the JD (U) has time and again reiterated that Tejashwi will have to resign in the wake of CBI raids and filing of an FIR against him, his father Lalu Prasad Yadav and mother Rabri Devi among others in the alleged land-for-hotel scam case.
