DMK shouldn't comment on diesel price: Digvijaya

New Delhi: DMK, an ally of the Congress and a part of the UPA Government at the Centre, has come out against the decision to give oil marketing companies the right to change diesel price at regular intervals. As soon as the DMK made the statement against the hike in diesel price, Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh advised the party not to make such comments. Singh claimed that all allies were taken on board before the decision was taken and it does not suit the DMK to make statements against the move.

DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Friday asked the government to reconsider diesel price hike. "Allowing state-owned oil companies to increase diesel prices even by a small quantum is a wrong decision. The price hike will hit the poor and middle," Karunanidhi said. He also demanded that the cap of subsidised cylinder be increased to 12 from the proposed nine.

Reacting to the statement Singh said DMK has ministers at the Centre and all decisions are taken after the consent of the allies. He also said that government should find out how the poor and farmers were benefiting from the subsidy on diesel.
