New Delhi: The government may allow discussion on the UPSC CSAT issue in Parliament on Wednesday. The opposition has been demanding clarity on the government's stand after it announced that the English Aptitude test marks will not count.
This decision was met with severe opposition. Parties from the Hindi heartland want the aptitude test scrapped completely while Tamil parties have demanded that the exam be conducted in all regional languages.
Blame game also began over the issue on Tuesday as the Bharatiya Janata Party accused the previous Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for the mess.
"The government took a step after a lot of consideration and thought. This problem was started by Congress and UPA. Now the NDA and BJP has come up with a proper solution for that," BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.
Uproar continued not only within Parliament but outside too. A group of UPSC aspirants protested in the capital on Tuesday saying that the exam favours commerce and science students over those from humanities stream. In Hyderabad too, aspirants protested against the exam.
The government had on Monday announced that a 20-mark English section in the CSAT paper will not be included for grades or merit.
"The solution is to give equal weightage for paper 1 and paper 2 that will take care of the problem. Secondly, taking away English will be disadvantageous to all non-Hindi speaking languages," Congress leader Jesudasu Seelam said.
