Campaign against me won't distract me: Khurshid
He underlined that the Foreign Minister's role was to represent India globally rather than get distracted by domestic dissent

Gurgaon: External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Friday said he would not allow the campaign against him by social activists to distract him from his new job of representing India's interests globally. Taking a dig at Arvind Kejriwal who had recently visited Khurshid's Lok Sabha constituency Farrukhabad, the minister said "I am not sure that anyone is moving residence to my constituency and if they are, they will be shifting their focus to one constituency.

"As a Foreign Minister, I represent the nation abroad, not a party," he told reporters here when asked about the campaign against him by Kejriwal in his constituency. Kejriwal had levelled allegations of corruption against an NGO run by him and his wife Louise Khurshid. Khurshid said "we have a responsibility to speak for India with or without banners. I don't speak for any segment or community," he said.

He underlined that the Foreign Minister's role was to represent India globally rather than get distracted by domestic dissent. Asked about former Army chief Gen V.K. Singh's remarks that he will gherao Parliament, he said that being a retired person, Gen Singh was free to say what he wished. "However, one should not take any posture which is against the basic ethos of the Constitution," Khurshid said.
