Bundelkhand reels under drought, MP Minister watches dance performance
Defending his attendance at the ceremony, Bhargava said that the Rai dance is a traditional ceremony and its relevance won't be understood by outsiders.

Even as Bundelkhand is reeling under severe drought due to deficient rains, Madhya Pradesh Panchayat Minister Gopal Bhargava was busy watching the traditional Rai dance by over 100 dancers at his hometown of Garhakota in Sagar district.

Bhargava hails from Bundelkhand. Defending his attendance at the ceremony, Bhargava said that the Rai dance is a traditional ceremony and its relevance won't be understood by outsiders.

"Look at Mumbai, girls are dance bars perform barely without clothes. And girls here wear 22 gauge ghagra cholis. We don't want to get defamed because of these girls," said Bhargava.

The Aam Aadmi Party was up in arms against the minister and accused him of ignoring the plight of people in Bundelkhand.

"We are here to protest against Gopal Bhargava. Bundelkhand is undergoing severe drought, farmers are affected so bad. And these ministers are entertaining themselves. It clearly shows that he doesn't care," said an AAP leader.

Bundelkhand – which is divided between Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh – is battling famine due to consecutive droughts and hailstorms which destroyed crops. CNN-IBN has reported on how food is scarce there and lakhs of people are fleeing the region to survive.
