Rahul Gandhi rightly said that BSP's elephant was eating funds, Digviajaya Singh said.

Lakhimpur: Stepping up the attack on political opponents, Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Monday alleged while BSP was a party deep into corruption BJP used the name of Lord Rama for political gains.

"The BSP government in UP was deep into corruption. The Congress-led UPA government had sent Rs 8,670 crores under NHRM to upgrade the health facilities in UP but no one is here to give an account of Rs 5000 crore as to where this amount was spent," Singh said, addressing two poll rallies.

"Rahul Gandhi rightly said that BSP's elephant was eating funds," Singh said.

Accusing BJP of cashing in on the name of Lord Rama, Singh said "everyone, including me, respects Lord Ram but no one traded Lord Ram for vote politics as BJP did".

"BJP, in the name of 'Shilas' (stones) for the Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya, collected hefty donations from people but now they are not ready to give an account of the donation," he alleged.

The Congress leader said never in the history of UP any Congress chief minister was implicated in corruption cases, unlike SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and chief minister Mayawati.

Claiming that only Congress could ensure all-round development of Uttar Pradesh, Digvijay termed SP and BJP of playing politics of caste and religion respectively.
