New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced that it will hold an all-India protest on November 21 on the eve of the Winter
session of Parliament against the Congress-led UPA government which, it alleged is responsible for several scams, price rise and FDI in multi-brand retail. BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said in New Delhi that demonstrations, sit-ins, rallies and marches will be held in state capitals.
He alleged UPA is to be blamed for price rise, corruption, scams and for bringing in FDI in multi-brand retail. Senior BJP leaders will visit different state capitals to lead the protests. BJP president Nitin Gadkari, facing charges of dubious funding against his companies, will go to Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh to lead the protest. Asked about the issue, Naqvi said "Gadkari had earlier expressed his wish to hold a rally in Itanagar. So, he would like to lead this protest there and he agreed. The BJP has always felt a sense of responsibility towards the North East. Rajnath Singh and M Venkaiah Naidu have held rallies there in the past."
The 'Halla Bol' rallies across the country on November 21 will be followed by Opposition protests in Parliament when the session begins the next day. "The UPA government's calculations on the ground and its arithmetic in Parliament have both gone haywire," Naqvi alleged. While Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj will not participate in the protests on November 21 due
to the all-party meeting called by Speaker Meira Kumar, the senior leader will not keep away from the demonstrations. The party failed to clarify why Advani is not joining the protests.
On why Gadkari is going to Itanagar and not one of the politically more important state capitals, Naqvi said, "Assembly polls are due in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura and since Itanagar is near to these states, Gadkari is going there." He said the BJP had also won the two Lok Sabha seats in
Arunachal Pradesh in the past and is hopeful of wresting them back this time.
The BJP tried to set at rest the speculation that charges against Gadkari will dent the Opposition's charge in Parliament against the government on corruption issue. "This is a misconception of Congress...Our party is united and satisfied that Gadkari has not engaged in any wrongdoing. I can assure you that the party is united," Naqvi said.
Naqvi alleged that from economic liberalisation India has reached the stage of "economic indebtedness" due to the policies of the Congress-led government. Referring to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi without naming her, the BJP leader said she is acting as a "super-Prime Minister". The BJP sought to know why Robert Vadra, in the eye of controversies over his land deals, is being given a clean chit without a probe.
