BJP fires at Cong in fake encounter case
Gujarat BJP president Purshottam Rupala alleges Opposition is raking up issue to grab power.

New Delhi: The BJP on Tuesday said the Congress was “raking up” the murder of a businessman in a fake encounter just to grab power in Gujarat.

“The Opposition wants to politicise the whole matter but the Congress will regret raking up the fake encounter case," said state BJP president Purshottam Rupala. He denied that any minister or BJP leader was involved in Soharabuddin Shaikh's murder in November 2005.

"Gandhinagar ki gaddi tak jane ka rasta Soharabbudin se hote huai nahi jata," he said. (Gandhinagar cannot be reached via Soharabbudin.)

"I will not say anything on the encounter issue, as it is pending with the Supreme Court but those killed encounter were criminals," he was quoted by PTI as saying.

Three IPS officers in the state are under arrest in connection with Shaikh's murder. Rupala denied media reports that a CID report on the encounter had mentioned Minister of State for Home Amit Shah.

Rupala said the state government didn’t favour a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the counter but will follow the Supreme Court’s order.

"No IPS officer has been arrested in any fake encounter case ever. It is in Gujarat that three IPS officers have been arrested. We have presented all the facts about the encounter in the Supreme Court as and when we came to know about it."

Commenting on Left parties’ demand that the CBI probe the case, Rupala said: " 40 people were killed in police firing in Nandigram. Not a single officer or a constable has been questioned so far by West Bengal government."

"All the national parties are trying to target Gujarat in the fake encounter case when the state government has come clean on the issue."
