The main candidates from Bijnor were Ruchi Vira (SP), Rashid Ahmad (BSP), Suchi (BJP) and Rahul Singh (RLD).

Bijnor is Muslim-dominated constituency. Shuchi Chaudhary, BJP's candidate here is the wife of an RSS man who is in jail for allegedly triggering communal violence last year. She is facing sitting MLA Ruchi Vira of SP, who won the seat in by poll.

In the 2012 Assembly elections, the BJP won this constituency by 17,836 votes. Kunvar Bharatendra, the winning BJP candidate, got 68,969 votes. The nearest contender was BSP candidate Mahboob who got 51,133 votes. The voter turnout was 65.88 %.

The ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh had in 2012 won 224 seats spread across 75 districts. It has tied-up with Congress this time in the contest against Bharatiya Janata Party and Bahujan Samaj Party.

Elections to 403 seats of Uttar Pradesh were held over 7 phases from February 4 to March 8.

Exit polls had predicted the BJP emerging first in Uttar Pradesh with the Samajwadi Party- Congress alliance emerging second and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party emerging a distant third.
