New Delhi: Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Wednesday briefed the Prime Minister's office on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) case. Bassi gave a status update on the entire JNU incident to the PMO.
The Delhi Police chief said that no clean chit has been given to JNU Students Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar, who has been arrested on sedition charges.
He added that they had proof against the JNUSU president.
"We have suffecient evidence aganist Kanhaiya based on which he has been arrested...we are investigating the matter and other people are commenting whether there are evidences or not, This is strange," said Bassi addressing mediapersons.
The Delhi Police chief added that they had taken the rung leaders and are in search of other leaders, asserting that the investigation is fair and without any bias.
"The arrests have been valid and allegations being made aganist Delhi Police baseless," he said.
This comes even as the Supreme Court asked the Delhi Police to ensure safety and security of litigants and journalists in Patiala House Court where Kanhaiya Kumar is slated to be produced on Wednesday.
The apex court restricted the entry of people in Patiala House Court and ordered that only 20 people would be present inside the complex.
Meanwhile, Kanhaiya Kumar has claimed that he was not part of the pro-Afzal Guru event that took place in the Jawaharlal Nehru University. Sources say that he claimed that the participants of the event that took place on February 9 were also not JNU students.
Kanhaiya has been arrested in a case of sedition and criminal conspiracy in connection with the alleged anti-national event inside the university premises and is in police custody till Wednesday.
