In another three days, Bharat Mandapam — the venue that hosted the G20 event last year — will host another mega concave, this time for the BJP, which aims to win on 370 seats in the Lok Sabha polls and help turn into reality Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘400 paar’ clarion call for NDA.
BJP sources say close to 11,300 delegates, including PM Modi himself, will attend the event that will take place under the leadership of party president JP Nadda.
The conclave will go on for two days starting February 17. Before the formal start, national office-bearers of the BJP will go into a huddle away from the public eye. Post lunch, the conclave will kick off with JP Nadda’s speech. Here onwards, streaming of the entire session will be available for public consumption.
“This will work as a pep talk session. In the BJP, strategies are not discussed in public. Though we started work on the ground long ago, this will be the formal poll bugle sounded by the top leadership with the message to stop only after winning 370 seats,” said a BJP general secretary who is on election duty right now.
The two-day huddle will come to an end on February 18 with the prime minister’s pep talk in front of a packed house, scheduled at 2pm.
Apart from the roughly 350 national executive members of BJP, members of BJP’s national council will also be present. All BJP Members of Parliament — both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha — will be present along with many former MPs. All national and state-level office bearers of different Morchas (like minority, women among others) will also be present. Office bearers holding responsibility in different committees like the disciplinary committee will be present over the weekend. All state BJP’s core committee members will be in Bharat Mandapam over the two days as well apart from all state presidents.
The list doesn’t end here. All former state presidents who are in healthy condition, Lok Sabha cluster Prabhari, Lok Sabha Prabhari, and coordinators, all national spokespersons and all state-level chief spokespersons, all state-level media coordinators, and social media coordinators are also being invited.
BJP district presidents, district Prabhari, presidents and vice-presidents of municipalities, state-level boards, and district-level panchayats are also being asked to come over.
Generally, in national executives of BJP, one political and one economic resolution is brought in and passed unanimously. But this time around, sources suggest a motion that will list the key achievements of Modi 2.0 is likely to be brought in as a way of the party expressing gratitude to the prime minister. Though no one in the party knows the details, it is widely speculated that the inauguration of the Ram Temple and abolition of Article 370 will prominently figure in the motion.
“It is a political event. We are expecting a political speech by the prime minister as well that will enthuse our cadres across India and demoralise the opponents at the same time,” said the BJP leader quoted above.
