Who is Jharkhand's Robin Minz: Son of a Security Guard Set to Join Gujarat Titans for INR 3.6 Cr

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auctions saw records getting shattered and history being re-written. The Australians hit the pay dirt with Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins bagging the biggest deals ever in the history of the tournament. At the same time, several uncapped players became millionaires as well. One of them is Jharkhand’s wicketkeeper-batter Robin Minz who was roped in by Gujarat Titans for a huge sum of INR 3.6 crore.

Who is Robin Minz?

Hailing from Jahrkhand’s Gumla, Minz happens to be the first tribal cricketer from the state to bag a multi-million IPL contract. Speaking with Local18 in June 2023, the 21-year-old had said he has playing cricket since he was 8. His love for the game was noticed by his father, who is a retired army man and currently working as a guard at the Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi.

Minz completely shifted his focus to cricket after clearing class 10^th. Earlier this year, he was scouted for the Mumbai Indians’ UK tour in July. He is yet to make his First-class debut but has led the state in U-19 and U-25 teams.

Currently, he plays for the Sonnet Cricket Club in Namkum as a wicketkeeper-batter.

Minz received calls for trials from Lucknow Supergiants, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders. He attended the trials for Delhi but couldn’t find a buyer at the 2023 IPL auction.

Minz adores legendary MS Dhoni and considers him his idol. Speaking with Local18, Minz had said he loves the way Dhoni keeps wicket. The youngster is also inspired by the CSK captain’s presence of mind and his calm demeanour.
