Further, the district collector in the NTR district in Andhra Pradesh has announced a holiday across all educational institutions on December 4 and 5. However, schools might have to remain open on Saturdays to make up for the shortfall of 220 working academic days, the collector had added. Cyclone ‘Michaung’ is expected to hit the west-central Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts by forenoon.

The cyclone is likely to affect Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh but is expected to have no impact on Odisha. The TN government has deployed disaster response force personnel and established relief centres to accommodate residents of vulnerable areas.

Earlier, schools in Chennai remained closed on November 30 due to heavy rains. Educational institutions also remained shut in Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, and Kanchipuram districts. Chennai University had postponed the varsity exams due to the heavy rain for the benefit of the students.
