UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak recently tried to make a transition video on TikTok. Soon, his flop attempt at the transition trend was accompanied by hilarious memes, leaving people in complete splits. The original video was shared by the Conservative Party and it had Sunak unveiling a £20 million government grant for the improvement of Blyth’s high street and investment in crime reduction. In the video, Sunak starts by saying, “If you live in or around Blyth, you’re going to want to hear this,” then, just like any other transition video, he does a palm slap to the camera and then reappears. Then he says, “We’re giving your town £20 million to improve things like the high street, safety, and community heritage.”

The video went so viral that #RishiSunak started trending on TikTok. Many people started creating memes. Now, these memes have surfaced on ‘X’. “Rishi Sunak tried to be trendy and do a transition video but failed to realise how they work, so it’s just him slapping the camera,” wrote a user.
Here, have a look at a few posts:

I can only assume Rishi Sunak’s digital communications team hate him. Didn’t even one of them explain to him that this isn’t how/when you use a ‘hand over camera’ transition? #HandOverCameraTransition #RishiSunak #GeneralElectionNow pic.twitter.com/8LNIEdCzF3— Paul Ilett (@Paul_Ilett) October 11, 2023

The trend is making many people laugh on social media.
Meanwhile, earlier during his maiden visit to Ukraine, the PM offered his support to the war-struck nation. He also posted on ‘X’ expressing his support to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but a comment he wrote about Britain raised eyebrows across the microblogging platform. “Britain knows what it means to fight for freedom. We are with you all the way @ZelenskyyUa,” Sunak said.
Given Britain’s reputation over its historical colonialism and the countries, Sunak’s statement struck most people as gravely “ironic”. This is when many people trolled him.
