Delhi witnessed overnight rainfall bringing the much-needed relief in some areas that were choking in air pollution. Not just Delhi but also Mumbai and other neighbouring regions witnessed unseasonal rain and thunder. In Delhi and its suburbs, the rain was much needed due to the worsening AQI. This came up at a time when the authorities in the capital were mulling seeding clouds to improve the toxic air gripping the city.
As the city saw intense showers, many took to ‘X’ and shared images and videos, expressing their happiness. “#DelhiRains finally smogg chamber broke and we can inhale some oxygen. Big relief and Feeling Relaxed now,” wrote an ‘X’ user while sharing images. Another person wrote, “The best #Dhanteras blessings – #DelhiRains thank you. Every drop counts #DelhiAirPollution.”

This comes as a much-needed respite from the increased air pollution. The showers helped bring down overall pollution levels in city, with Delhi’s overall air quality index (AQI) recorded at 398 at 7:00 am on Friday.
“Rain activity will end by today and from tomorrow north-westerly winds will start and it will continue for the next two to four days. Due to this, the Air Quality Index (AQI) will remain in ‘moderate’ to ‘poor’ category. There is relief (from air pollution) but not much,” says Mahesh Palawat, Vice President, Meteorology and climate Change, SkyMet, on weather conditions in North India.
